Grow Your Twitter Following Fast

By Ron Stucky

Social media is important to any Internet marketer. Most IMers will already have accounts with several sites, like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Digg, Reddit, StumbleUpon, and others. Of course, having those accounts and knowing what to do with them are completely different things. It takes time and effort to build followings on, say, Twitter that are both engaged and profitable. Luckily, this is all very do-able with the right strategy. It's really possible if you put in the time and effort. Below are some great suggestions for helping you build a strong Twitter following.

Your username on Twitter should be on the short side. It's good to use your own name here, but if you have several different Twitter accounts (for different things of course) this might not be an option. Still, the rule is that shorter is better. This is largely because it is easier to retweet someone with a short user name than it is with a longer user name. You should know that the longer your username, the less space you'll have for your tweet, as every character counts. For that matter, shorter user names are a lot easier to remember. It doesn't have to be extremely short, but it shouldn't be more than 10 characters or so.

It is important that you do not describe the meal that you just had, or a conversation you overheard. Avoid tweeting about what you're wearing today, or how your hair is just a mess and you don't know what to do. Tweeting should always be professional at all times. Your personal account should be where you discuss personal things. You will definitely get the praise of your followers. Replying to other people's tweets can be worthwhile. Replying to tweets with questions or comments is always appreciated. It's no great effort on your part to send off a reply, even if it's only to thank them for the helpful info. In some cases, you may want to ask them to elaborate or clarify a point. Simply expressing gratitude for a useful link or idea is also valid reason to write to them. If you only talk to people who contact you first, you may be waiting a long time. Taking the first step and reaching out to people goes a long way on social media sites. This is one of the ways to get more out Twitter and reaching out to your followers in a notable way.

Don't neglect to write a bio about yourself on your profile. Your bio doesn't have to read like a long resume, but you should have at least a brief one. You can put in any relevant facts about who you are, your experience or what you have to offer. Here you can present anything about yourself that you want people to know. People who click on your profile may be interested to know about your business, so tell them as much as possible. People really do read the bios of the accounts on Twitter and will use them as the basis for whether or not to follow you.

You can create a Twitter following using a variety of tactics and strategies. There are several ways to accomplish this. Some are not so obvious.

Over time you can experiment to figure out what works for you and what doesn't. The tips and strategies that you have just learned in this article can help you get going. Finding people that are loyal, who will be active followers, really is the key. You'll figure out how to do as you work and learn.
